Optimizing nitrogen rates for Missouri crops

The Northern Missouri Research, Extension, and Education Center (NM-REEC) will host its annual Field Day on August 1, 2024, at the Lee Greenley Jr. Memorial Research Farm in Novelty, Missouri.

This event promises a comprehensive exploration of current agricultural research and practices, featuring presentations by esteemed experts and researchers across various disciplines.

The day kicks off at 7 a.m. with a hearty breakfast, setting the stage for a series of informative farm tours.

Participants can expect insights into cutting-edge topics in beef and forage management, including strategies for optimizing yield and quality in Sorghum X Sudangrass by Dr. Carson Roberts, and advancements in genomic predictions for commercial crossbred cattle by Dr. Jaime Courter. Dr. Rosalie Lerardi will address concerns about ticks and their impact on Missouri's cattle population.

In integrated pest management, Dr. Kevin Bradley will discuss the role of drones in herbicide applications, while Dr. Mandy Bisch examines the timing and efficacy of fungicide applications in corn and soybeans. Dr. Ivair Valmorbida will highlight key strategies for managing pests in soybean crops.

Agronomic management will be a focal point, with Dr. Gurbir Singh and Pranay Kadari updating nitrogen rate recommendations for Missouri, and Dustin Steinkamp presenting findings from field evaluations of DCD and enhanced efficiency urea for corn.

Dr. Gurpreet Kaur and Anjeeta Nain will delve into the implications of hemp cultivation and flooded beans on agricultural practices.

The day concludes with a provided lunch, offering attendees a chance to network and discuss the latest research insights in a collaborative environment.

This Field Day promises to be a valuable experience for agricultural professionals and enthusiasts alike, highlighting advancements and strategies crucial to the industry's future success.
