TGM Boosts Grain Capacity and Rail Speed

TGM Boosts Grain Capacity and Rail Speed

By Jamie Martin

Total Grain Marketing FS (TGM) has announced the completion of a large-scale expansion at its Neoga, Illinois grain facility. This strategic investment improves grain storage, transportation, and dumping efficiency for local producers.

The project includes 1.5 million bushels of new storage, a 40-car rail spur with a modern loadout system, and two 1,000-bushel dump pits. These upgrades triple the dumping capacity to 75,000 bushels per hour, helping reduce truck wait times and improving flow during the busy harvest season.

With the additional storage, TGM’s total capacity at the Neoga facility now approaches 4.5 million bushels. The corn, soybean, and wheat handled here will move efficiently to southern poultry operations and Gulf export markets via CN rail.

“I know our existing farmer customers will be excited about our increased dumping capacity because they’ll be able to dump their grain and get back out to the field faster, which is critical during harvest,” said TGM Grain Division Manager Ken Meinhart. “The new storage also raises our total storage capacity to nearly 4.5 million bushels, which will help ensure we have adequate bin capacity during harvest season.”

“The new rail loadout facility will help us load rail cars at 50,000 bushels per hour from the two new bins, allowing us to load 105 car unit trains in 10 to 12 hours as compared to the 72 hours it used to take,” said TGM General Manager Joe Meinhart. “This is a time savings for our staff and benefits farmers because we’ll be shipping grain to markets in the south faster than ever before.”

These upgrades reflect TGM’s commitment to supporting modern farming through infrastructure that saves time, boosts efficiency, and expands market access for U.S. grains.
