A new weather station in Grain Valley, Missouri is providing important information to the aviation, agriculture, and public safety communities. The station is part of the Missouri Mesonet, a network of 45 stations operated by University of Missouri Extension.
The station provides real-time data on wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, and precipitation. This information is used by pilots to make safe flight decisions, farmers to manage their crops and livestock, and public safety officials to monitor and respond to severe weather events.
The station is located in a strategic location to fill a gap in the Kansas City-area reporting system. It is approximately 30 miles closer to downtown Kansas City than any previous station.
The National Weather Service is also a beneficiary of the new station, as it provides meteorologists with additional data to make forecasts and record historical data.
The new weather station is an asset to the Grain Valley community and beyond. It provides critical information to help people make informed decisions and stay safe.
Missouri Mesonet weather stations now serve 32 counties.
