Women Farmers - Learn Rental Rates and Leasing Strategies

Women Farmers - Learn Rental Rates and Leasing Strategies

By Blake Jackson

University of Missouri Extension is launching a five-part webinar series, “Farm Management-On My Own,” designed to empower women farm operators and landowners. Starting April 17, this series will cover essential topics like agricultural leasing, Missouri farmland values, rental rates, and custom work rates.

“I put this series together because I saw a need for this type of education based on the number of calls I was getting from women who were widowed, divorced or single and who were running their farms by themselves for the first time,” said Amie Breshears, MU Extension agricultural business specialist in Benton County.

While tailored for female landowners and farm operators, the series welcomes all participants to engage in its informal, participant-driven, and learner-focused environment.

Participants will gain access to current Missouri cash rental rate and farmland value data, crucial for informed decision-making in leasing agreements and land investments.

The series emphasizes the dynamic nature of costs related to custom work, land values, and rental rates, highlighting how understanding these values within a broader financial context can enhance profitability and ensure long-term success. Breshears notes that this timing allows participants ample preparation for establishing or modifying leasing agreements for 2026.

"You’ll gain confidence when discussing these topics with tenants, landowners or other decision-makers in the operation," Breshears stated.

The webinar series will be held from 12:15-12:45 p.m. on five consecutive Thursdays: April 17 (basic lease components), April 24 (lease types), May 1 (farmland values), May 8 (rental rates), and May 15 (custom work rates).

The cost is $15 per person, and registration is available at https://extension.missouri.edu/events/on-my-own-whats-it-worth-ag-leasing-farmland-values-rental-rates-and-custom-work-rates-lunch-learn
