MACA Honors Rice as Educator of the Year

The Mid America CropLife Association (MACA) honored an academic leader at its recent virtual annual meeting.

The MACA Educator of the Year Award was presented to Dr. Charles "Chuck" Rice, Kansas State University. The award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated significant contributions to American agriculture, especially in the MACA region. Also, the person has demonstrated evidence of consistency in educating the public on the value of production agriculture.

Dr. Rice is a University Distinguished Professor and holds the Vanier University Professorship at Kansas State University. He is a Professor of Soil Microbiology in the Department of Agronomy. He earned his degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Kentucky.

Dr. Rice is a past Nobel Peace Prize winner for his work with the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in 2007. He is a relentless advocate for conservation agriculture and one of the most influential speakers in the U.S. on soil health and conservation practices for production ag.

He's also served on various boards including the National Corn Growers Task Force for Green House Gas Emissions and Global Warming; he chairs the Board on Agriculture and Natural Resources of the U.S. National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine; he was a founding leader of the No-Till on the Plains farmer association and technical advisory lead for the Soil Health Partnership that leads farmer driven soil research on over 160 active farms across the U.S.

In addition, he sits on the advisory panel of several corporate sustainability teams across the industry and is an active teaching professor helping introduce agriculture to the future of our industry. He has advised over 40 graduate students and 10 post-doctorates and has over 200 publications.
