University of Missouri to Host Animal Genetics Science Night

The University of Missouri's Jefferson Farm and Garden Extension and Education Center will host a free Science Night on September 21, from 6-8 PM, for anyone interested in learning more about animal genetics.

This event is a great opportunity for the whole family to learn about genetics, including:

• Why gene editing is important for human health and livestock production • How animal geneticists help farmers improve their breeding strategies • The latest research on animal genetics at the University of Missouri Adults will gain a better understanding of these complex topics, while youth will be introduced to the world of genetics through hands-on activities.

One activity will involve solving a set of genetics-inspired puzzles to find the codes for locks connected to a box. Another activity will teach younger children about the structure of DNA by having them match beads to create a double helix bracelet.

The event will also feature world-renowned MU scientists who will share their research on animal genetics. These scientists are working to understand the precise factors that promote health and regulate growth, reproduction, and nutrient utilization in animals.

The free Science Night will be held at the MU's Jefferson Farm and Garden Extension and Education Center, located at 4800 New Haven Road, Columbia.
