Annual garden tour and plant sale set for May 18 and 19

Annual garden tour and plant sale set for May 18 and 19

By Blake Jackson

The University of Missouri Extension Master Gardeners of Ste. Genevieve are inviting nature lovers, tourists, and community members to their annual Garden Tour on May 18 and 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event highlights the region’s most picturesque and historic gardens, offering a delightful springtime experience for all ages.

This special tour features both private and public gardens, showcasing a wide variety of plant life, including vibrant annuals, blooming perennials, and creative landscaping. Visitors will explore gardens in both shaded and sunlit areas, making it a great opportunity for garden enthusiasts to gather ideas and inspiration.

Ste. Genevieve, the oldest permanent European settlement west of the Mississippi River, was founded by French Canadians around 1735. Many homes in the town are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and their surrounding gardens reflect the area's rich French colonial heritage. These gardens, filled with colours and scents, remain a beautiful reminder of the community’s cultural roots.

“This annual event showcases some of the most interesting and delightful gardens in the state,” said MU Extension horticulture specialist Kate Kammler.

In addition to the tour, visitors can stop by the Master Gardeners’ annual plant sale. Proceeds from the sale help fund local beautification grants, supporting the ongoing care and enhancement of public spaces.

To join the tour or get more information, contact the Ste. Genevieve Welcome Center at 573-883-7097 or 800-373-7007.
