The Show-Me-Select Replacement Heifer Program will host a fall-calving heifer sale at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at the South Central Region Stockyards in Vienna, Missouri.
“Show-Me-Select is an educational program for cattle producers to improve heifer development and increase market opportunities for added values on Missouri-raised heifers,” said Chrisee Brandl, University of Missouri Extension livestock field specialist.
This spring sale will feature approximately 64 bred heifers, consigned by nine local cattle producers. The offering includes a mix of purebred and crossbred heifers, representing breeds such as Angus, Hereford, Simmental, Red Angus, and Charolais.
Heifer color variations include black, black and white face, tan, and red and white face. All heifers have been bred to registered Angus, SimAngus, or Hereford bulls.
“These bred heifers for sale through the Show-Me-Select program are sound, blemish-free and considered optimum condition,” Brandl noted. Each animal has completed a research-based development protocol focused on growth, reproduction, and health. Pregnancy checks have been completed, with calving dates projected between August and December.
“Show-Me-Select heifers are a great choice when cattle producers are wanting to add replacement females,” said MU Extension livestock field specialist Eric Meusch. “SMS heifers are managed from weaning to sale day to ensure healthy females that will calve with ease and remain productive in the herd for the future. If you have the economic foundation and productive pastures right now, it may be a good time to consider buying these high-quality females.”
Online bidding will be available through DVAuction. The sale catalog can be accessed at: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1BNPgfMmWs20ZOTBz74EdNU7kOWvBnnle.
