Collegiate Cattle Members Compete in First-Ever Showdown

Missouri Cattlemen's Association collegiate cattlemen members competed in the first annual Collegiate Cattlemen's Showdown during the 53rd Annual Missouri Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show in Osage Beach. The event was introduced to encourage young members to showcase their knowledge and passion for agricultural issues through interactive conversations.

"We created the Collegiate Cattlemen's Showdown to provide our young adult members with an opportunity to share their voices," said Allie Lock, Missouri Cattlemen's Association Intern. "The Showdown is a debate-style event to help facilitate healthy discussions and disagreements over somewhat controversial issues."

Contestants of the event included Jacob Hall, University of Missouri; Madelyn Derks, University of Missouri; Regan Ragsdale, University of Missouri; and Matthew Morgan, Crowder College. Morgan won second place and received a full 2022 Missouri Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show Package.

"I had a great experience. It allowed college students from around the state to interact with each other and share our knowledge," Morgan said.

The Showdown, sponsored by the Missouri Chamber of Commerce, was won by Regan Ragsdale, who received registration to NCBA Convention and Trade Show in Nashville, Tenn., and registration to the 2022 Missouri Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show.

"It was a true joy debating with my peers about the beef industry and beyond," Ragsdale said. "I am thankful for the support that the Missouri Cattlemen's Association provides for their collegiate members."
