A coalition of 115 U.S. food and agriculture associations called for the swift confirmation of Katherine Tai as U.S. Trade Representative.
Organizations supporting the confirmation include the Missouri Pork Association, USA Rice Federation, National Cotton Council and the Pet Food Institute.
In a letter sent to the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance, the groups cite Ms. Tai's qualifications and demonstrated ability to build bipartisan support for trade policies, as well as her experience in opening foreign markets and reducing barriers for U.S. food and agriculture workers and exporters. They submit that her expertise securing greater market access for U.S. products and ensuring enforcement of clear and fair rules with trade partners will ensure the opportunity for U.S. food and agriculture to fairly compete in the global economy.
Together, the group of associations represent the vast majority of the food and agriculture sector that is responsible for roughly one-fifth of the country's economic activity, directly supporting over 23 million jobs -- constituting nearly 15 percent of total U.S. employment.
