Fraud Investigation Leads to Arrest in Indiana

By Jamie Martin

An eight-month investigation by Indiana State Police led to the arrest of Dustin J. Echelbarger, a 43-year-old from Greentown, Indiana, for fraudulent activities in the farm equipment business.

The investigation, which started in October 2024, focused on possible fraud, forgery, and corrupt business practices.

Mr. Echelbarger was a salesman at a local farm equipment store, where he reportedly falsified purchase orders and secured loans in the names of local farmers.

The fraud allegations claim that he manipulated documents and sold equipment to farmers, ultimately collecting over $750,000 through fabricated orders and another $650,000 in loans using fraudulent information.

This illegal activity took place across northern Indiana and caused significant financial loss to farmers.

Following the investigation, Echelbarger was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including Corrupt Business Influence, Fraud, and Forgery. He was held in the Grant County Jail after being served with an arrest warrant.

As this case unfolds, it serves as a crucial reminder for farmers and buyers in the agricultural community to be vigilant, especially when purchasing used farm equipment.

Fraud in the agricultural industry, particularly through classified ads, is a recurring issue that can lead to severe financial consequences.

As stated, "All criminal defendants should be presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law."
