For those eager to forage for flavorful wild mushrooms like morels, it's crucial to distinguish edible varieties from their toxic counterparts.
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is offering a program titled “Learning to Hunt: Mushrooms” to equip individuals with this essential knowledge.
This free session will take place on April 24th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and offers both virtual and in-person attendance options at MDC’s Andy Dalton Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center, located at 4897 Greene County Farm Road 61.
Interested individuals can register for the virtual option at https://mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com/Event/EventDetails/204207 and for the in-person option at https://mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com/Event/EventDetails/204206.
During the April 24th program, Mike Snyder of Wildwise Botanicals will collaborate with MDC staff to share valuable insights on locating and accurately identifying edible mushrooms. A highlight of the session will be the discussion of morel mushrooms, a highly sought-after spring delicacy.
Although the program is free of charge, registration is mandatory. Participants must provide a valid email address, as the program link will be sent electronically. The session will also feature a live chat for attendees to ask questions and interact with the presenters.
To stay updated on future events at MDC’s Andy Dalton Range and Outdoor Education Center and other nearby MDC facilities, individuals can subscribe to text alerts and email bulletins. For inquiries regarding upcoming programs or text alert sign-up, please call 417-742-4361.
A comprehensive list of in-person and virtual programs offered by MDC facilities statewide is available at https://mdc.mo.gov/events. Don't miss this opportunity to learn how to safely and confidently identify edible wild mushrooms.
