The Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture (CCUA) will host an educational event on April 21, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., aimed at introducing both new and experienced farmers to the basics of produce safety.
This hands-on session, held at CCUA’s farm located at 1769 W Ash Street in Columbia, Missouri, will place special emphasis on understanding and applying the principles of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
The event will feature presentations from University of Missouri Extension specialists, who will discuss FSMA guidelines and the importance of identifying contamination risks.
Attendees will learn practical steps for minimizing food safety hazards, ensuring that produce remains safe from field to table.
In addition to the classroom-style learning, participants will take part in an interactive walking tour of the CCUA farm.
This real-world experience will help demonstrate how produce safety practices are applied on-site, offering valuable insight for farmers looking to enhance their operations.
The event is open to anyone interested in farming, whether you’re an established grower, a beginning farmer, or exploring agriculture as a new career.
The program is offered free of charge thanks to support from Missouri Farmers Union, CCUA, and MU Extension.
