The University of Missouri Extension is set to launch its Master Gardener training program starting August 15, tailored for residents of mid-Missouri.
This initiative, conducted in collaboration with the Central Missouri Master Gardeners, offers comprehensive horticultural education overseen by MU Extension horticulturist Dhruba Dhakal.
According to Dhakal, the program spans 30 hours of online sessions complemented by six field visits across Cole and Boone Counties.
Participants will explore various locales including flower and vegetable gardens, orchards, and greenhouses, gaining practical insights into gardening practices.
“The Extension Master Gardener training will help you to gain new horticulture knowledge and become a community resource for science-based information,” says Dhakal. “The training covers the benefits of gardening and provides opportunity to meet fellow gardeners.”
The program commences with an orientation session at 5:30 p.m. on August 15 at the MU Extension Center in Cole County, located at 2436 Tanner Bridge Road, Jefferson City.
Subsequently, participants can engage in 11 weekly Zoom lectures from August 22 to October 31, running from 9-11 a.m. on Thursdays. These sessions are accessible remotely or onsite at the MU Extension Center.
Topics covered include plant biology, health, and diseases, landscape design, soil management, fruit and vegetable cultivation, ornamental plant care, pest control, and environmental stewardship.
