The Southwest Research Center in Mount Vernon, Missouri, will host an informative evening for cattle producers on Monday, January 26, 2026, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

The event is designed to provide updates and practical guidance for fescue-based livestock operations, with insights from local organizations, elected officials, and industry specialists. Attendees will also enjoy a complimentary steak sandwich dinner, courtesy of the Southwest Cattleman’s Association.

The evening will feature reports from the Lawrence County Commission, the University of Missouri Southwest Research Station, and the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce, highlighting community and industry developments relevant to cattle producers.

Presentations will cover critical topics impacting herd health and management. Dr. Craig Payne, State Extension Veterinarian, will discuss Theileria orientalis ikeda, an emerging cattle disease in Missouri. Caleb O’Neal, Extension Field Specialist in Plant Science, will explore how drones can support fescue-based cattle operations.

Livestock specialists Ian McGregor and Dr. Cecilia Rocha will present strategies for optimizing cattle performance on fescue and innovative technologies to improve profits in artificial insemination, respectively.
