Grant Norfleet's journey with the National FFA Organization reached its pinnacle at the National FFA Convention in November, where he was elected as the 2023-2024 National Secretary. Hailing from Mexico, Missouri, Grant is a senior at the University of Missouri, majoring in Agriculture Education and Leadership, with emphases on communications and leadership, and minors in Agribusiness Management and Digital Storytelling.
Growing up in Audrain County on his family's livestock and row crop farm, Grant initially hesitated to join FFA as a freshman. Encouraged by his father, he took the leap, and it was the mentorship of senior member Lauren Quinlan that solidified his commitment. Lauren's guidance and their shared experiences in contests fostered Grant's passion for FFA. He aspired to emulate the impactful relationships he had formed within the organization.
Grant's FFA journey extended beyond his local chapter. He served as an educator for Missouri Farmers Cares' Agriculture Education on the Move program and, from 2021 to 2022, held the position of a Missouri FFA Association Vice President. In the summer of 2023, he directed leadership activities at Missouri FFA Camp.
The fall brought a new challenge as Grant competed for a national office. The rigorous selection process involved a detailed application, speeches, interviews, and a workshop presentation. Grant's perspective on the National FFA Convention transformed, emphasizing the significance of connecting and building relationships with fellow students.
Now the 2023-2024 National Secretary, Grant is set to embark on a year of service, starting with training and onboarding in Indianapolis. His role involves facilitating chapter visits, delivering keynote speeches, and interacting with FFA members across central Florida in January. With a deep enthusiasm for his team and the opportunity to make a positive impact, Grant is eager to contribute to the National FFA Organization's mission.
As Grant looks ahead, he reflects on the importance of relationships in shaping his FFA journey and expresses excitement about the collaborative efforts that lie ahead with his fellow officers.
