Missouri's farmers enjoyed a productive week, with suitable weather for fieldwork on 6.5 days. Temperatures averaged a comfortable 67.2 degrees Fahrenheit, 6 degrees above normal. Rainfall was slightly below average, with 0.11 inches falling statewide.
Crop conditions remained generally favorable. Topsoil and subsoil moisture supplies were adequate for most areas, with only a small percentage reporting shortages.
Corn maturity reached a significant milestone, with 97% of the crop reaching maturity. Harvesting efforts were also progressing steadily, with 62% of corn harvested for grain.
Soybeans were also nearing completion. 84% of soybean plants had dropped leaves, indicating maturity, and 23% of the crop had been harvested. Cotton bolls were opening at a good pace, reaching 93% of their total, and 20% of the cotton had been harvested.
Rice harvesting was well underway, with 82% of the crop harvested. For winter wheat, planting had begun, reaching 10%, which is in line with the 5-year average.
Emergence of winter wheat was also at the average level, reaching 2%. Overall, crop conditions in Missouri were favorable during the week ending October 6, 2024, with significant progress made in harvesting corn, soybeans, cotton, and rice.
