Missouri's Amazing Oaks Webinar Series


A five-part webinar series, "Missouri's Amazing Oaks," will be held from August 31 to September 14, 2023. The webinars will cover a variety of topics related to white oaks, including their ecology, management for wildlife, and economic importance.

The webinars are free to attend and open to the public. They will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 1:30 p.m. CST. Recordings of the evening sessions will also be available.

Participants who own property in selected priority geographies and complete the series may qualify for a free visit from a professional consulting forester.

The webinar schedule is as follows:

• August 31: Missouri's Cornerstone Species This session will provide an overview of white oaks and why they are at risk.

• September 5: Basic Oak Ecology This session will explore why oaks grow where they do, how they grow from seed to mature tree, and efforts to restore these species.

• September 7: Oak Management for Wildlife This session will discuss how to manage white oak forests for wildlife that depend on them.

• September 12: Oaks for the Birds This session will examine how different songbirds respond to different forest types and stages.

• September 14: Goods from the Woods This session will explore the markets and products of upland oaks, as well as the economic importance of oaks to local and state economies.
