Strategic plan for soybean success

Strategic plan for soybean success

By Blake Jackson

The Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council (MSMC) recently unveiled a new strategic plan for the fiscal years 2025–2028. This forward-looking blueprint aims to strengthen the soybean industry through focused initiatives in research, education, and market growth.

The updated mission statement reflects MSMC's goals for the next three years: “We are committed to serving the Missouri soybean farmer through demand growth, innovative research, and proactive education.”

“MSMC has a generational legacy of forward-thinking investments that deliver value back to farmers,” said Mark Lehenbauer, MSMC chairman. "Our new strategic plan builds on this foundation, representing the next step in our commitment to high-impact initiatives that drive meaningful results for Missouri soybean farmers and the broader agricultural industry.”

MSMC’s plan acknowledges the growing complexities of agriculture influenced by global markets and emphasizes collaboration among farmers, researchers, and public-private partners. The focus is on investments that address critical industry needs while fostering sustained growth for the soybean checkoff program.

Key priorities include:

  • Boosting the competitiveness of Missouri soybeans in domestic and global markets.
  • Advancing research to enhance soybean quality and performance.
  • Expanding outreach to better connect with and support farmers.

“It’s a testament to the vision of our farmer board, ensuring that every checkoff dollar invested drives impactful outcomes—from cutting-edge research and education to expanding markets and improving sustainability,” said Gary Wheeler, CEO of MSMC. “Together, we’re charting a course for long-term success for our farmers and the agricultural community.”

Through this plan, MSMC aims to position Missouri soybean farmers for long-term success while contributing to the agricultural community’s growth and resilience.
