The Missouri Cattlemen's Association recognized Morris Westfall, Halfway, Mo., with its "Pioneer Award" at its 52nd Annual Missouri Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show. The award is the highest honor given by the association and is comparable to a lifetime achievement award.

"Morris is no stranger to the agricultural industry, especially the beef industry, in Missouri," said 2005 MCA President Howard Hardecke. "He has a long record of accomplishments and is a well known, well respected and appreciated advocate for all things agriculture related."

Upon graduating from the University of Missouri, Westfall sought a career in agriculture and became a field representative for the Hampshire Hog Association. He served in this position for two years and then became the farm news director at KWTO radio in Springfield, Mo.

Not satisfied sitting on the sidelines watching others lead and getting things done, Westfall successfully ran for the Missouri House of Representatives in 1971 and for Missouri Senate in 1994.

He has maintained a cow herd on his farm his entire life and at 80 years of age, he still devotes much of his time tending to his cows.

"As a cattleman, he has always seen the value of being associated with others of in the industry," said Hardecke. "Morris is a charter member of the Missouri Cattlemen's Association, one of the few remaining. He has always been a member and active in MCA, both at the local and state levels."
