Missouri Farmers Scurry to Get Crops Planted

There were 5.1 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending May 15, 2022. Temperatures last week averaged 76.0 degrees statewide, 13.0 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.25 inches, 0.79 inch below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent short, 82 percent adequate and 17 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent short, 86 percent adequate, and 11 percent surplus.

Corn planted was 65 percent complete, compared to the 5-year average of 79 percent. Corn emerged was 30 percent compared to the 5-year average of 56 percent.

Soybeans planted was 19 percent complete, compared to the 5-year average of 28 percent. Soybeans emerged was 6 percent compared to the 5-year average of 9 percent.

Cotton planted was at 47 percent compared to the 5-year average of 46 percent.

Rice planted was 56 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 74 percent. Rice emerged was 15 percent compared to the 5-year average of 55 percent.

Winter wheat headed was 62 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 75 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 58 percent good and 7 percent excellent.
