Dr. Marshall Stewart, vice-chancellor of extension and engagement at the University of Missouri, is planning to attend the MU Extension's Southwest Region Council Meeting on June 27 in Springfield.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Greene County Extension Center located in the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center, 2400 S. Scenic Ave in Springfield.

Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The business meeting will get underway at 7 p.m.
Dr. Stewart will be discussing his initiative, "Building Our Future Together."
Over the last several months, MU Extension has been gathering information as part of a needs assessment process to help map out the future of the organization. Dr. Stewart will discuss some of the preliminary results of the information that has been
collected to date.
The MU Extension needs assessment taking place this year has been a three-pronged approach.
Community conversations were one of the first activities of the process held in 2017. Meetings were organized around the state (four in the Southwest Region) to help understand the needs of Missourians.
While the community conversations were taking place another group of researchers on campus were diving into data to see what types of statistical information was available to help define the needs of Missourians.
The final piece of the needs assessment was a third party review done by people from outside the University system looking at MU Extension's organizational structure and programming.
The regional meeting is an ideal time for interested residents to get feedback about the needs assessment and to hear Dr. Stewart describe the "Building Our Future Together" initiative.
Regional Extension Council meetings are open to the public but, due to limited space, advance registration is necessary. Call the regional extension office at (417) 865-0707 before June 19.
The regional extension council for southwest Missouri is comprised of representatives from each of the 17 extension county councils in the Southwest Region. Each county council, whose members are elected by a public vote, selects its
representatives to the regional council where each county has one vote.
The purpose of regional extension councils is to be a forum through which member county councils cooperate in providing effective educational programs for the region.
