Attend Missouri Steer Feedout Finale in Lamar September 9

By Blake Jackson

“Helping cow calf producers understand how their calves will perform in the feedyard is important to the sustainability of their cattle operation,” says Patrick Davis, University of Missouri Extension livestock field specialist.

The Missouri Steer Feedout offers producers a chance to gain hands-on experience in cattle feeding and learn how their animals perform in the feedyard on a small scale. This insight can help them make informed management and marketing choices that may boost profitability.

“The Missouri Steer Feedout Finale meeting will provide results on how the 42 steers on feed performed,” Davis explains. Attendees will also receive carcass and financial data, giving a clear view of profitability for the six producers who participated in the program.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Thiebaud Auditorium, 105 East 11th St., Lamar. It is organised alongside the Barton County Cattlemen’s Association meeting, with support from MU Extension, Show Me Youth Ag Academy, and Missouri State University.

“Registration is required to attend the meeting by Sept. 4,” Davis notes. Attendance is free, and a meal will be provided by the Show Me Youth Ag Academy.
