Celebrating National FFA Week with USDA

By Jamie Martin

National FFA Week is marked by the USDA's celebration of its robust partnership with the National FFA Organization, aimed at cultivating the next generation of leaders in agriculture.

This annual event, scheduled from February 15-22, serves as a platform to showcase the critical role of agricultural education and the myriad career opportunities in this sector.

Throughout the week, the USDA reiterates its commitment to the FFA by engaging in activities that highlight the importance of the agricultural sector.

Jody McDaniel, a notable USDA NASS official and FFA alum, reflects on how his FFA experiences have enriched his career, stating, "My time as an FFA member was instrumental in shaping my career in agriculture and civil service."

The USDA's involvement goes beyond celebrations, encompassing various initiatives like Memoranda of Understanding that strengthen the collaboration with FFA to enhance awareness of agricultural careers among students. These partnerships facilitate important dialogues and provide FFA members with insights into federal agricultural programs.

Horace Hodge, another FFA alum and USDA liaison, echoes the sentiment of lifelong impact, attributing his career success to the skills and values he acquired through FFA. His ongoing efforts include organizing leadership and career development events at Prairie View A&M University, further bridging the gap between educational pursuits and career realities in agriculture.

The USDA's active participation in National FFA Week underscores its dedication to not only celebrating the FFA's contributions but also ensuring sustained support for educational programs that are vital to the agricultural community’s future.

Happy National FFA Week from all of us at USDA!
