The Missouri Chestnut Roast Festival is returning on Saturday, October 19th, from 10 AM to 3 PM at the Horticulture and Agroforestry Research Farm (HARF).

This annual event offers a fun-filled day for the whole family, featuring delicious food, live music, educational activities, and tours of the historic Hickman House.

“We always look forward to this event,” said Center for Agroforestry Interim Director Ron Revord. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to introduce Missourians to the agroforestry products and opportunities that set our state apart in a fun and engaging way.”

This year's festival highlights include:

  • Food: Sample roasted chestnuts, enjoy perennial foods prepared by Chef Shelly La Fata, and purchase plants and trees from local vendors.
  • Activities: Participate in kids' activities, take a wagon tour of the research farm, and learn about agroforestry, natural resources, and conservation.
  • Exhibits: Explore exhibits by artists, farmers, and educational organizations like the Missouri NRCS, MU Extension, and Missouri Nut Growers Association.
  • Live Music: Enjoy performances by Meredith Shaw, Andrew Camp, Uriah Cater & George McVay.

“We love welcoming the community out to the farm for this event,” said Hannah Hemmelgarn, assistant director at the MU Center for Agroforestry. “This is a beautiful time of year to showcase our decades of unique tree crop research at HARF while celebrating fall harvest with family and friends.

The Missouri Chestnut Roast Festival is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with family and friends while learning about the importance of agroforestry. HARF is located at 10 Research Center Road, New Franklin, MO 65274.
