The University of Missouri is hosting its annual Tomato Festival, a free event for tomato enthusiasts and gardeners alike.
Taking place on Thursday, September 5th, from 4-7 PM at the MU Jefferson Farm Extension and Education Center, this event offers a fun-filled and informative experience.
“This event is not only fun and tasty, but it also helps us know what varieties of tomatoes and peppers the public like best,” said Tim Reinbott, communications director for the Missouri Agricultural Experiment Station. “We share these results each year with local growers so they can choose what varieties of tomatoes they want to try in their garden.”
This year's festival promises a variety of activities, including:
- Tomato and Pepper Tasting: Sample over 100 different varieties of tomatoes and peppers and share your favorites.
- Culinary Delights: Enjoy salsa, tomato jam, and other tomato-based products, including samples from retired horticulturist Steven Kirk and local restaurants.
- Educational Opportunities: Learn about tomato diseases from MU Extension's David Trinklein and witness a cooking demonstration featuring tomatoes and fingerling potatoes.
- Family Fun: Keep the kids entertained with flavored milk tasting, pedal tractors, barnyard animals, and more.
Don't miss out on this exciting event! The Tomato Festival is sponsored by the University of Missouri's Central Missouri Research, Extension and Education Center and Jefferson Farm and Garden Extension and Education Center.
