Learn warm season grass practices at Missouri field tour

By Blake Jackson

The University of Missouri Extension in Oregon County is hosting a field tour on September 5, 2024, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, offering a unique opportunity to explore fields of Spar Bluestem and Caucasian Bluestem at Cox Cattle Company.

Attendees are asked to meet at Harps in Alton, MO, by 2:45 PM, before heading to the field, located just five minutes west on P Highway.

This event, held at the Cox Cattle Company, will feature insights from owners Casey and Dana Cox, who will discuss their management practices for warm season grasses. They will share their experiences in establishing these fields and their use for hay production.

Additionally, Haley Schwantz, MU Extension Agronomy Specialist, and Elizabeth Picking, MU Extension Livestock Specialist, will be present to answer questions and provide guidance on how warm season grass varieties can be effectively utilized on other farms.

The event is free to the public, but due to limited parking, registration is required. Water will be provided for all attendees.

To register or obtain more information, please contact the Oregon County Extension Center at 417-778-7490. This tour offers a valuable opportunity for farmers and landowners to learn more about warm season grass management.
