In 2025, Missouri's crop planting intentions reflect a mix of growth and declines across various commodities. Corn growers are set to plant 3.80 million acres, a 10% increase from 2024.
This expansion highlights confidence in corn production as farmers look to capitalize on favorable market conditions.
Soybean planting, however, is expected to decrease by 3%, with an estimated 5.70 million acres to be planted, down from 5.90 million acres in 2024. Despite this decrease, soybeans remain a significant crop for Missouri farmers.
Cotton, another important crop, is anticipated to see a sharp 20% decline, with growers intending to plant only 320,000 acres in 2025. This marks a notable reduction from the previous year's 400,000 acres.
Rice planting will also drop slightly by 2%, with 215,000 acres projected for 2025. Winter wheat acreage is set to decrease by 4%, with 640,000 acres expected, down from 670,000 acres in 2024.
Peanut planting is expected to rise by 4%, with 25,000 acres projected for 2025, while hay acreage is expected to grow by 2%, totaling 2.90 million acres.
These shifts in crop areas reflect both challenges and opportunities in Missouri's agricultural landscape for the upcoming year.
