Missouri Soybean Production Up 7 Percent, Corn Down 7 Percent



Planted corn area is estimated at 3.35 million acres, down 7 percent from last year. Harvested area, forecast at 3.20 million acres, is also down 7 percent from last year. Based on October 1 conditions, the Missouri corn yield is forecast at 151 bushels per acre, down 8 bushels from 2021. Production is forecast at 483 million bushels, 11 percent below last year's production.

Soybeans: Planted area is estimated at 6.10 million acres, up 7 percent from last year. Harvested area, forecast at 6.05 million acres, is up 7 percent from 2021. Based on October 1 conditions, the Missouri soybean yield is forecast at 45 bushels per acre, down 4 bushels from 2021. Production is forecast at 272 million bushels, down 2 percent from 2021.

Cotton: Harvested area is forecast at 300,000 acres, down 3 percent from last year. Based on October 1 conditions, the Missouri cotton yield is forecast at 1,104 pounds per acre, down 156 pounds from last year. Production is forecast at 690,000 bales (480-pound), down 15 percent from last year.

Rice: Planted area, estimated at 155,000 acres, is down 22 percent from 2021. Harvested area is forecast at 149,000 acres, down 23 percent from last year. Based on October 1 conditions, the Missouri rice yield is forecast at 7,600 pounds per acre, down 440 pounds per acre from 2021. Production is forecast at 11.3 million cwt, down 27 percent from last year.

Alfalfa hay: Harvested area, forecast at 210,000 acres, is down 12 percent from 2021. Based on October 1 conditions, the Missouri alfalfa hay yield is forecast at 2.10 tons per acre, down 0.95 tons from the previous year. Production is forecast at 441,000 tons, down 40 percent from 2021.

Other hay: Harvested area, forecast at 2.8 million acres, is down 3 percent from 2021. Based on October 1 conditions, the Missouri other hay yield is forecast at 1.65 tons per acre, down 0.35 ton from last year. Production is forecast at 4.6 million tons, down 20 percent from 2021.
