As of March 1, 2025, Missouri's total hog and pig inventory stood at 3.40 million head, reflecting a 1% decline from December 1, 2024, but a 5% increase compared to the previous year.
The breeding herd inventory was reported at 420,000 head, marking a decrease of 20,000 from the previous quarter and 5,000 from March 2024.
The market hog inventory reached 2.98 million head, a slight 1% decrease from December 2024 but a 5% rise from the previous year. Within this category, pigs weighing under 50 pounds totaled 1.28 million, up 3% from March 2024.
The 50–119-pound group stood at 600,000, increasing 3%, while those weighing 120-179 pounds totaled 710,000, reflecting an 8% rise. The heaviest group, hogs over 180 pounds, saw the largest growth, climbing 16% to 390,000 head.
Missouri’s December-February 2025 pig crop totaled 2.68 million head, marking an 8% increase from the previous year.
Sows farrowing during this period numbered 225,000, up by 5,000 from the same period in 2024. The average number of pigs saved per litter rose to 11.90, compared to 11.30 the previous year.
These figures highlight continued growth in Missouri’s swine industry, with strong farrowing rates and improved pig survival contributing to overall market expansion.
