The University of Missouri's Plant Diagnostic Clinic has launched a digital diagnosis service, enabling growers to quickly identify plant health issues.
This service allows for the submission of photos depicting plant damage caused by insects, pathogens, weeds, environmental stress, or improper care.
“Most importantly, it enables faster identification and treatment, which helps save plants promptly,” said Peng Tian, director of the MU Diagnostic Clinic. “Instead of delivering physical samples to the clinic or an extension office, you can now submit your sample with a simple click.”
To ensure accurate diagnoses, Tian recommends submitting 4-6 clear, sharp photos per sample, focusing on affected plant tissues and including various plant parts from different distances. Users should double-check photos before uploading and provide detailed information in the online submission form.
Photos can be uploaded at https://extension.missouri.edu/programs/plant-diagnostic-clinic via the "Digital sample submission" link. Up to five photos can be attached, and clinic staff are immediately notified upon submission. "The more information you provide, the better our experts can diagnose the issue," Tian notes.
Typically, senders receive a diagnosis within 1-2 days. If further evaluation is needed, the clinic forwards the sample to another expert.
In cases where physical samples or additional testing are necessary, the clinic staff will contact the sender.
"Take advantage of this convenient, time-saving resource and submit your digital samples today!" Tian encourages. This service provides a streamlined approach to plant diagnostics, aiding growers in maintaining plant health.
