OKFB and local Bureaus raise $12,400 for food security

OKFB and local Bureaus raise $12,400 for food security

By Jamie Martin

The Oklahoma Farm Bureau (OKFB), in collaboration with county Farm Bureaus, has successfully raised $12,400 to support food assistance programs across Oklahoma. This effort is part of the 2024 Farm Bureau Cares - Community Food Donation Matching Program, which enhances the contributions made by county bureaus and their Women’s Leadership Committees.

Initiated in 2021, the Farm Bureau Cares program motivates local bureaus to donate funds or food to local organizations that tackle food insecurity. These organizations include community food banks, church meal programs, and support services for victims of domestic violence. For every dollar donated by a county Farm Bureau, OKFB provides a matching fund up to $100, effectively doubling the support provided to these vital community resources.

This year, over 30 county bureaus participated, reflecting the agricultural community's commitment to fostering food security and supporting the well-being of their neighbors. The funds raised will aid various food assistance efforts, ensuring that vulnerable populations in Oklahoma have access to necessary nutrition.

Farm Bureau members, deeply rooted in agricultural values, understand the critical importance of food security. The Farm Bureau Cares program is a testament to their dedication to using agriculture not just to feed, but also to strengthen community ties and provide for those in need.
