Private pesticide applicator training

Private pesticide applicator training

By Blake Jackson

The University of Missouri (MU) Extension is hosting a Private Pesticide Applicator Training on February 7, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Mathewson Exhibition Center, located at 2503 W 16th St, Sedalia, MO 65301.

This essential training program is designed for farmers and pesticide users, providing the knowledge and skills needed to handle and apply pesticides safely and effectively.

The training fulfills requirements set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Missouri Department of Agriculture. It ensures participants meet current pesticide competency standards and understand state and federal regulations.

Farmers and applicators must complete recertification training every five years to maintain their Private Pesticide Applicator License in Missouri.

Key topics include proper pesticide application techniques, understanding and reading labels, safe chemical storage and disposal, and protecting pollinators and wildlife.

Participants will also learn about the latest rules and developments affecting pesticide use. Completing the training is mandatory for obtaining or renewing a Private Pesticide Applicator License, which authorizes the purchase and application of Restricted Use (RU) pesticides on farms.

The program prioritizes safety while promoting responsible pesticide handling to safeguard crops, livestock, people, and the environment.

The cost is $75, and the registration deadline is February 7, 2025. For more information, contact the Pettis County Extension Center at 660-827-0591.
