Cattle producers in Cedar County and surrounding areas are invited to a free educational conference focused on improving the profitability and sustainability of their operations.

The Cedar County Livestock and Forage Conference will be held on Thursday, February 27th at 5:30 PM at the Stockton United Methodist Church Family Life Center (708 State Highway 32, Stockton).

"Pastures and cattle management are crucial for successful cattle operations," says Patrick Davis, University of Missouri Extension livestock field specialist. "This conference will provide valuable insights and strategies to help producers optimize their practices."

The agenda features presentations by MU Extension specialists and local organizations:

  • Management considerations for retaining calves post weaning: Patrick Davis, MU Extension livestock field specialist, will share strategies for a smooth weaning process.
  • Pasture management in preparation for the upcoming grazing season: Terry Halleran, MU Extension agronomy field specialist, will offer guidance on preparing pastures for optimal grazing.

Representatives from the Cedar County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and the Farm Service Agency (FSA) will also be present to provide updates on their programs. Additionally, a representative from the Cedar County Farm Bureau will deliver a legislative update.

"A complimentary meal prepared by Hillbilly Express Smoked Meats and Catering will be provided for attendees," says Davis.

Space is limited, so register by February 20th by contacting the Cedar County SWCD office at 417-276-3388, Ext. 3. For further inquiries, contact Patrick Davis directly at davismp@missouri.edu or 417-276-3313.
