Washington, Mo. is set to host the Missouri Dairy Summer Social on Friday, June 30, at Riegel Dairy. This free educational event, organized by University of Missouri Extension's dairy specialist, Reagan Bluel, invites Grade A dairy producers from across the state to gather valuable insights.
Riegel Dairy, renowned for its excellence in dairy production, attributes its success to effective reproductive management.
Co-owner Brian Riegel emphasizes the significance of reproductive success, as it allows cows to spend more time in peak lactation, the most profitable phase of production. Achieving early conception requires meticulous planning months prior to insemination, particularly during the dry period.
To ensure a smooth transition from dry through early lactation, Riegel Dairy employs various strategies. The close-up herd is managed in the dry pen, where Animate anionic salts are utilized and data from CowManager Sensor, an ear tag technology by Select Sires, is monitored round-the-clock. These measures help prevent transition cow diseases and disorders, ultimately improving fertility.
During the Summer Social, attendees will have the opportunity to gain further knowledge from industry experts. Ted Patterson will present on "Predicting fresh cow problems in the dry period," while Erica Varner from PhiBro will discuss "Supporting a smooth transition using Animate." The event will also include a farm tour and a delightful lunch.
Interested participants are encouraged to RSVP to Reagan Bluel, who can be contacted at 417-772-4231 or via email at Reagan@MODairy.org.
By sharing their experiences and employing innovative approaches, Riegel Dairy aims to equip fellow dairy producers with the tools and insights necessary to enhance reproductive success, leading to more productive and profitable lactation periods.
