The U.S. and Mexican dairy industries have reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration by signing a joint statement at their sixth annual meeting in Chihuahua, Mexico. This partnership aims to strengthen the North American milk production sector through joint efforts on trade, research, and promotion.

Leaders from both nations highlighted the importance of working together. "Our industries share many challenges," said Krysta Harden, CEO of the U.S. Dairy Export Council. "Mexico is a valuable partner, and these meetings strengthen ties for our mutual success."

The agreement focuses on several key areas:

  • Preserving and expanding trade - Both sides agreed to facilitate trade between the U.S. and Mexico.
  • Enhancing communication - Establishing a forum for ongoing discussion and information exchange was prioritized.
  • Boosting dairy consumption - A joint effort to increase milk and dairy product consumption in both countries is planned.
  • Improving farm productivity - Sharing best practices and innovations to improve dairy farm efficiency is a shared goal.
  • Protecting dairy's image - Combating the misuse of dairy product names is a crucial area of collaboration.
  • Promoting technological exchange - Sharing knowledge on farm practices and product quality is included in the agreement.
  • Addressing emerging issues - Collaboration on sustainability, animal welfare, and farm labor is planned.
  • Defending common food names - The joint statement emphasizes protecting cheese names and other traditional dairy product designations.
  • Developing a work plan - A concrete plan with measurable goals and follow-up meetings will be established.

This renewed partnership between the U.S. and Mexican dairy industries demonstrates a commitment to working together for a more prosperous and sustainable future for the North American dairy sector.
