Missouri Wheat Stocks Down 35 Percent

Corn stocks in all positions on December 1, 2019 totaled 337 million bushels, down 3 percent from December 1, 2018. On-farm stocks totaled 235 million bushels, while off-farm stocks totaled 102 million bushels. The September - November 2019 indicated disappearance is 190 million bushels.

Soybean stocks in all positions on December 1, 2019 totaled 189 million bushels, down 1 percent from December 1, 2018. On-farm stocks totaled 115 million bushels, while off-farm stocks totaled 73.7 million bushels. The September - November 2019 indicated disappearance is 90.6 million bushels.

All wheat stocks in all positions on December 1, 2019 totaled 17.7 million bushels, down 35 percent from December 1, 2018. On-farm stocks totaled 2.10 million bushels, while off-farm stocks totaled 15.6 million bushels. The September - November 2019 indicated disappearance is 8.77 million bushels.

All hay stored on United States farms as of December 1, 2019 totaled 84.5 million tons, up 7 percent from the previous December. Disappearance from May 1, 2019 - December 1, 2019 totaled 59.3 million tons, compared with 59.9 million tons for the same period a year earlier. The largest increases in stocks from one year ago were seen in Kansas, Missouri, Montana, South Dakota, and Texas, all resulting from increases in dry hay production.

December 1 hay stocks levels were record lows in Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island.

Winter wheat seeded area for harvest in 2020 is estimated at 440,000 acres, down 20 percent from 2019.

U.S. winter wheat planted area for harvest in 2020 is estimated at 30.8 million acres, down 1 percent from 2019 and down 5 percent from 2018. This represents the second lowest United States acreage on record. Seeding of the 2020 acreage was underway in mid-September but was behind the 5-year average pace. About a month into seeding, progress was at or ahead of the 5-year average for the remainder of seeding the 2020 acreage. Seeding was mostly complete by November 17, 2019.
