Grazing multiple species of livestock on a farm can significantly improve efficiency and profitability, according to Patrick Davis, a livestock field specialist with University of Missouri Extension.
By diversifying livestock species, farmers can enhance forage utilization, boost efficiency, and increase their potential for profit. However, Davis emphasizes that proper planning and management are essential for success.
To help farmers learn more, MU Extension is hosting a multispecies grazing workshop on Thursday, May 22, at 6 p.m. at the Stockton United Methodist Church Family Life Center, located at 708 E. Highway 32 in Stockton. “This workshop will cover the benefits and practicalities of multispecies grazing,” Davis explains.
The event will feature various speakers and topics:
- "Protecting Cattle Operations From Drought" by Patrick Davis, MU Extension livestock field specialist.
- "Benefits of Multispecies Grazing" by David Brown, MU Extension small ruminant field specialist.
- "Multispecies Grazing Success Story" by Bob Salmon of Bob Salmon Farms.
The workshop is free, though attendees must register in advance. A meal, catered by Hillbilly Express Smoked Meats and Catering of Stockton, will be provided at no cost, thanks to the sponsorship of Mid-Missouri Bank of Stockton.
