The National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) expressed strong disapproval of a Department of Defense (DOD) grant awarded to BioMADE for developing lab-grown meat for the military. The NCBA, representing US cattle ranchers, believes this is a misuse of taxpayer dollars and a disservice to soldiers.
Ethan Lane, NCBA Vice President of Government Affairs, voiced his concerns - "It's outrageous that the DOD spends millions feeding our troops lab-grown protein instead of high-quality US beef.
American ranchers raise the best beef in the world, with a low carbon footprint. Our soldiers deserve the same wholesome, natural meat, not something produced in a lab."
The NCBA argues that lab-grown meat, also known as cultured meat, is a novel and unproven technology. They raise concerns about the safety and nutritional value of this new food source.
Additionally, they question the environmental benefits of lab-grown meat compared to traditional livestock farming.
