Crop progress ahead of schedule in mild conditions

Farmers across the state had 6.8 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending November 19, 2023. Temperatures averaged 50.0 degrees Fahrenheit, 5.1 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.02 inches, 0.89 inches below normal.

Topsoil moisture conditions were mostly adequate, with 36% of the state rated adequate or surplus. Subsoil moisture conditions were also mostly adequate, with 31% of the state rated adequate or surplus.

Harvest progress for corn, soybeans, and cotton is all ahead of the five-year average. Corn harvest is 97% complete, soybeans are 96% complete, and cotton is 98% complete.

Winter wheat planting is also ahead of the five-year average, with 95% of the crop planted. Winter wheat emergence is 81% complete, and 55% of the crop is in good to excellent condition.
