Participants will have the opportunity to learn effective land management strategies at a workshop on September 7, organized by the University of Missouri Extension and partners.
The free event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Bill and Margie Haag’s property in Callaway County near Portland, MO.
The workshop will cover various topics, including sustainable harvesting practices, wildlife management strategies, and the use of prescribed fire for managing different landscapes.
Brian Schweiss, a sustainable forestry specialist with MU Extension, emphasized the value of these practices for maintaining healthy ecosystems and generating revenue.
Consulting foresters and professionals from the Missouri Department of Conservation and MU Extension will be present to answer questions and offer insights on effective management practices.
Participants can also learn about receiving a free visit from a consulting forester to assess their own land management needs.
The Haags are known for their dedication to land management, using timber sales to generate revenue and improve wildlife conditions. They actively manage their open land with prescribed fire and invasive-species control, showcasing the benefits of proper land stewardship.
“This tour is a great resource for landowners wanting to see the benefits of properly conducted timber sales and other practices for wildlife,” says Schweiss. The workshop aims to provide practical knowledge that landowners can apply to their own properties.
Don’t miss this chance to gain valuable insights into forest and wildlife management at this informative workshop on September 7.
The event is free to the public, and lunch will be provided. Register athttps://extension.missouri.edu/events/forest-and-wildlife-management-workshop-0
