Free Small Ruminant Workshop for Sheep and Goat Farmers

Lincoln University Cooperative Extension is hosting a free Small Ruminant Practical Course on October 24, 2025, offering livestock producers expert guidance on sheep and goat management.

The event will cover rotational grazing, winter feeding strategies, marketing approaches, and hands-on practices designed to enhance farm productivity.

The day begins at 8:00 AM with a welcome and light refreshments. From 8:30 to 9:45 AM, Dr. Homero Salinas-Gonzalez will lead a session on Rotational Grazing in Missouri, followed by a panel discussion featuring Dr. Ken Coffey, Dr. Steve Meredith, Chris Boeckmann, and Dr. Chandan Shilpakar.

Winter Feeding Strategies for sheep and goats will be presented by Dr. Ken Coffey from 9:45 to 10:45 AM. A session on Marketing Options will take place from 10:45 AM to 12:00 PM, with insights from Jennifer Lutes and a panel including Linda Coffey, Brian Schweiss, Glenda DeShon, Colleen Meredith, and Christopher Boeckmann.

Lunch is provided from 12:00 to 12:30 PM. The afternoon features hands-on practices in rotations, including fecal egg count techniques with Dr. Mohan Acharya, FAMACHA and body condition scoring with Dr. Salinas and Linda Coffey, and estimating paddock size and yield using the grazing stick. The program concludes with a brief evaluation from 2:10 to 2:30 PM.
