Harvest progress and crop conditions in Missouri

Missouri experienced favorable fieldwork conditions during the week ending September 22, 2024, with 5.8 days suitable for agricultural activities.

Average temperatures were above normal, reaching 75.3 degrees, while precipitation was slightly below normal at 0.93 inches.

Crop Progress:

  • Corn: 88% of corn reached maturity, surpassing the 5-year average of 70%. Grain harvest reached 38%, exceeding the average of 19%. Corn condition was rated 2% very poor, 3% poor, 12% fair, 61% good, and 22% excellent.
  • Soybeans: 56% of soybeans were dropping leaves, compared to the average of 34%. Harvest reached 8%, exceeding the average of 2%. Soybean condition was rated 2% very poor, 7% poor, 19% fair, 60% good, and 12% excellent.
  • Cotton: 73% of cotton bolls were opening, ahead of the average of 63%. Harvest reached 2%, equal to the average. Cotton condition was rated 3% very poor, 7% poor, 30% fair, 59% good, and 1% excellent.
  • Rice: 61% of rice was harvested, exceeding the average of 33%. Rice condition was rated 4% very poor, 9% poor, 20% fair, 62% good, and 5% excellent.
  • Winter Wheat: Planting reached 2%, compared to the average of 1%.
