The University of Missouri Extension is offering a comprehensive training course for those interested in becoming Extension Master Gardeners.
Beginning January 9, 2025, this 36-hour program will take place at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis, running through May 15, 2025. It is designed for individuals eager to gain in-depth horticultural knowledge and share it with their communities.
Established in 1983, the Extension Master Gardener program equips volunteers with expertise in various aspects of gardening, including soils, plant nutrition, vegetable and fruit cultivation, ornamental plants, plant propagation, pest control, and environmental stewardship. The training also covers lawn care and residential landscaping.
Upon completing the course, participants are expected to contribute 30 hours of volunteer service to their community, helping with activities such as answering gardening queries, offering demonstrations, and supporting local educational initiatives.
Volunteers also contribute by managing demonstration gardens, sharing produce, and delivering presentations.
The course costs $335, which covers all training materials. This is a great opportunity for anyone passionate about gardening and looking to make a positive impact through education and volunteerism.
