University of Missouri Extension is offering a comprehensive drone training day for Missouri farmers on May 1st in Mount Vernon. This event will provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills for utilizing drones in agricultural settings.
Caleb O’Neal, MU Extension field specialist in plant science, explains, "We will cover the various kinds of drones currently being used in agricultural settings and what is required of remote pilots to utilize these technologies."
The training will showcase the capabilities of both small and large drones used for tasks like spraying and spreading and explore entrepreneurial applications.
The day-long session, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Mizzou’s Southwest Research, Extension and Education Center, will begin with classroom lectures and discussions. Following a catered lunch, participants will engage in hands-on field exercises.
These exercises will cover manual flight maneuvers, autonomous mission planning, and task implementation for drone imaging, spraying, and spreading.
Attendees will gain a solid understanding of drone applications in Missouri agriculture, licensing requirements, aircraft performance, weather and safety considerations, and calibration of sprayer and spreader functions.
The $175 registration fee includes training, materials, and lunch. Registration is required by April 28th to ensure adequate materials and meal preparation. Interested individuals can register at https://extension.missouri.edu/events/opportunities-for-drones-in-missouri-agriculture.
