The University of Missouri Extension will host a webinar series to help specialty crop growers learn effective methods for growing in tunnels. The “Tunnel to Table” series will run on Tuesdays from 6:30-8 p.m., Jan. 20 through April 14, 2026, via Zoom, according to Justin Keay, MU Extension field horticulture specialist.
“Growing crops in tunnels allows greater control over moisture and temperature, leading to higher yields and improved crop quality,” Keay says. “Construction costs can be high, but growers across the Midwest have found that the investment pays off over time.”
The 12-session series will feature MU Extension specialists and researchers from partner institutions, covering high, low, and caterpillar tunnels. Participants will learn about tunnel construction, irrigation, fertility management, pest and disease control, and the economics of specialty crop production.
“Whether you're just starting out or looking to improve your tunnel production year-round, this series offers trusted, research-based guidance to help your farm thrive,” Keay says.
Live attendance is encouraged, but all sessions will be recorded. The series will be followed by in-person field days across Missouri in late spring and early summer, with locations to be announced.
“We’re excited to offer this webinar series where we will host high tunnel experts from the USDA and several universities from the Midwest region,” Keay says. “Growers who attend this series will be better prepared to control pests, optimize soil fertility and grow great high tunnel crops.”
