Lincoln university boosts Missouri farmers with MGA relaunch

By Blake Jackson

The Missouri Growers Association (MGA) is getting a fresh start thanks to a revitalized partnership with Lincoln University of Missouri (LU). This collaboration aims to empower Missouri farmers, particularly those specializing in specialty crops and those facing resource limitations.

LU's financial support will allow MGA to offer more resources and educational opportunities to its members. These include workshops, farm tours, conferences, and social events. The partnership also benefits new members, who will receive a free one-year membership, a valuable production guide, and free admission to a regional conference.

Dr. Touria Eaton, a horticulture specialist at LU, emphasizes the win-win nature of partnership. "By improving individual farmer production, we strengthen Missouri's horticulture industry," she explains. LU's research expertise will provide valuable information to farmers, while MGA fosters connections between farmers and key organizations.

Leading the MGA's resurgence is Gabrielle Branstetter, recently appointed by LU's Horticulture Program. Branstetter highlights the critical role of MGA: "Specialty crop producers need a voice at the state level, and MGA provides that platform."

The partnership is already kicking off with events. MGA members are invited to a meeting at the Baker Creek Spring Planting Festival on May 13th. Branstetter will deliver a presentation, and LU will cover parking costs for attending members.

This collaboration strengthens Missouri's agricultural landscape by:

  • Enhancing educational resources for farmers.
  • Promoting innovation and improved production methods.
  • Supporting specialty crop producers and minority/limited resource farmers.
  • Connecting farmers with each other and with valuable organizations.

With LU's support and Branstetter's leadership, MGA is poised to empower Missouri's farmers and contribute significantly to the state's agricultural success.
