By Blake Jackson

The Douglas County Livestock and Forage Conference will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, at the Ava General Baptist Church, located at 213 E. Webster Ave. in Ava, Missouri.

“This conference will equip livestock producers to better manage their operations, stay economically viable, and provide quality beef products for the public,” said Tim Schnakenberg, University of Missouri Extension field specialist in agronomy.

Elizabeth Picking, MU Extension field specialist in livestock, will discuss strategies for setting up a grazing system on farms.

Chloe Collins, MU Extension field specialist in dairy, will share insights on improving cow body condition leading into the spring season.

Schnakenberg will offer advice on how to enhance drought resilience on farms using native grasses.

Local businesses will sponsor a meal for those who pre-register by January 24. Financial support is provided by FCS Financial, Town & Country Bank of Ava, and Stockmens Bank of Ava.

The event is free to attend, but preregistration is required to guarantee a meal and secure a seat. To pre-register, visit https://extension.missouri.edu/events/2025-douglas-county-livestock-forage-conference or call 417-683-4409. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and network with fellow livestock producers.
