The Missouri Corn Growers Association (MCGA) is pleased with the recent announcement from the U.S. Department of Commerce to lower countervailing duties (tariffs) on phosphate fertilizers imported from Morocco. The Department of Commerce has stated that it will lower the tariff from 19.97% to 2.12%.
MCGA applauds this decision as a significant step forward in the effort to lower fertilizer prices. The association has been leading an aggressive campaign to fight back against the tariffs, which have been in place since 2021 and have led to skyrocketing fertilizer prices and product shortages for corn growers.
MCGA is grateful for the support of U.S. Reps. Sam Graves, Mark Alford, and Ann Wagner, who signed onto an October 2023 letter to the Department of Commerce in support of lowering the tariff.
While this is a positive development, MCGA remains committed to the goal of lowering fertilizer prices to more sustainable levels. The association will continue to monitor the situation and advocate for policies that will benefit corn growers.
