Governor Mike Parson recently declared December as Christmas Tree Month in Missouri. The ceremony honored the winners of the Missouri Christmas Tree Association's annual contests, showcasing the state's vibrant Christmas tree industry.
Pea Ridge Forest in Hermann emerged victorious in the tree contest. Their 8-foot Canaan fir, growing for eight years at their farm, now proudly stands outside Governor Parson's office. This family-owned business, established in 1972 and currently run by the third generation, offers choose-and-cut trees, a wholesale nursery, and festive holiday activities like hay rides and hot chocolate.
The 2023 winning wreath was created by Meert Tree Farm in Festus. Established in 1963 and now operated by the second generation, Meert offers an array of seasonal activities, including a sunflower maze, pumpkin patch, Christmas shop, and children's train rides. Their award-winning wreath exemplifies the creativity and dedication of Missouri's Christmas tree growers.
This recognition highlights the importance of the Christmas tree industry to the state's economy and agricultural heritage. It's a time to celebrate local businesses, family traditions, and the joy of the holiday season.
